Review:- This was one of my favourite books this year, in fact this book affected me in more ways than I could imagine. I got so involved and so engrossed in the characters I started to feel what she was feeling.
The book starts off with Grace waking up in a strange room, everything white, clinical white. The only person around is Ethan. She does not know why or how she got there. Has she been kidnapped. She is just told to write. She pours her heart out onto those pages.
I loved Grace and could fully sympathise with her. She is a needy girl looking for some love. She clings onto her best friend, they have a very intense relationship and then have a falling out. Grace feels like she has lost a limb and when she meets Nat, who shows a very keen interest she falls head over heels. For someone who is usually very guarded, she lets her guard down with him.
She comes from a background which isn't ideal. Her father died and her mother seems to leave her to fend for herself, which seems to be the way she likes it. However deep down, she needs someone to love and nurture her. When things get bad she turns to pain and cuts herself. She find release in this. Cat Clarke described this so well that from Grace's point of view at the time I felt like cutting myself was a good thing to do. I know way does it condone cutting but the way Grace was feeling this was her outlet. Nat and Sally try to help her and she does stop for a while.
Then the inevitable happens, the thing I was shouting at her about. Grace plummets into depths she has never been before. The ending I found difficult and want to know what happens now.
I would recommend this book, it's not every one's taste and Grace can act like a spoilt little brat at times, but she has hit rock bottom and her life is a bit of a train wreck. You will sympathise with her and this book hits so many issues teenagers have, in a positive way. The book is heartbreaking and emotional and will keep you turning that page.
Disclaimer:- I was sent this book from the UK Book tours to read and review.
