Description (Good Reads):- It has been more than three years since octogenarian Anne McCaffrey joined her son Todd in adding to the Dragonriders of Pern saga that she began over forty years ago. Dragon's Time, the new installment, reveals no evidence of slackening. Lorana has cured the dragon-killing plague, but in its wake is perhaps an even great threat. To stop the onslaught of the Thread, she must take extreme measures, even perhaps tampering with the natural laws of the universe itself. A new frontier in one of the most beloved science fiction series of our time.Review:- This isn't my normal read, but I thought I would give it a go. I have not read any of Anne or her son Todd's previous books, but that did not matter this stood on it's own. However I think it makes a good addition to the series from what I have looked into. This book is actually book 23 in the series, so I've got quite a bit of catching up to do.
I did love the dragons, characters I have never read about in the past and this won't be my last. The drama that unfolds in the world of Pern. Lorana is a fantastic main character, you see her through up and downs. My favourite was Fiona, her kind spirit and hope. Can these characters survive against the harsh odds that are thrown at them.
I did find the time lines in the book a bit confusing, but then I don't know if it is because I hadn't read the past ones. The time travel made it a little bit hard to keep up. The dragons fight Thread and many are killed along with a lot of characters. Thankfully the main ones survived. There are a lot of characters and a lot to remember. The ending was a little bit rushed but I still enjoyed it. Not sure I gave it full justice as I hadn't read the rest, I found it hard going at times.
I would recommend this to all Anne McCaffrey fans, but not sure it is the right book to read if you are starting out on the series. Best start at the beginning. I did enjoy it and I will pick up more. Also for any sci-fi fans, this would be one for you.
Disclaimer:- I was sent this book in exchange for my honest opinion which I have given above.
