Cinderella Interpretation

As some of you know, I am doing a Novel/Creative Writing course with the London School of Journalism. I have a lovely tutor, who is the author Sue Moorcroft. One of my assignments was my interpretation of a fairy tale. I chose the ultimate fairy tale in my eyes Cinderella. Here is my interpretation:-

Cinderella

Cinderella
Cinderella is about a young girl who is nicknamed Cinderella, due to her shabby clothes, which are frazzled by the fire cinders as she sits by the fire at night. She lives with her dad, who got married to her stepmother and her two daughters after her mum died. Her stepmother and sisters do not like her; they are given everything they want, from fancy clothes to cars. Cinderella has to clean up after her mother and sisters, making them dinner, mending their clothes, etc. Her father seems to be oblivious to it all.

All Cinderella wants is for her dreams to come true, which is to marry a prince and live happily ever after. Just like every girl, I hear you say.

One day Cinderella receives an invitation to a party at the palace for the prince’s birthday. Her sisters and mother also receive and invite. Her stepmother tells her she can’t go because she has nothing to wear and she has chores to do. Cinderella is upset by this.

The stepmother and sisters go to the party, leaving Cinderella behind crying. Once they have left, a fairy godmother appears she asks Cinderella what is wrong. She explains, and then the fairy godmother waves her wand and tells Cinderella she will go to the party.

Cinderella is transformed, with a beautiful dress and shoes. Her hair and makeup is perfect. The fairy godmother changes a pumpkin into a coach and transforms some mice into horses to pull the coach. The only stipulation she makes is that she must return before midnight as the magic runs out.

Cinderella goes to the party. As soon as the prince lays eyes on her, he falls in love. They dance all night.

The clock in the palace strikes twelve, Cinderella must leave. She rushes out the door saying goodbye to the prince as she runs. Half way down the stairs, she loses one of her shoes, a glass slipper. She leaves it and keeps on running.

She reaches the coach but it has already turned back into a pumpkin and the horses back to mice. Her clothes turned to tatters. She rushes home.

The prince looks for her but cannot find her. Her sisters and stepmother come home, talking about the mysterious girl.

The next day the prince, and his guards knock on every door in town looking for the girl who the glass slipper belongs. The eventually reach Cinderella’s house. He tries it on the stepsisters and mother but it does not fit. Her stepmother tells the prince there is no need to try it on Cinderella as she was home all night, but the prince insists. The glass slipper fits.

Cinderella and the prince marry and live happily ever after.

The moral of the story is sometimes your dreams do come true so keep aiming and keep dreaming. However, glass slippers aren’t all that practical for running in!

This is fab, what a great assignment!
After my spree this morning with my birthday vouchers, I feel less like Cinders, but still have a lot of housework to do - maybe I'll vacuum in my new shoes!
